They accomplish their mission through hands-on training in U.S. and international newsrooms and within the Missouri School of Journalism. They are the leader in transforming journalists who are recognized as vital to journalism excellence, press freedom, and informed citizenries. Alfred Friendly has trained 352 journalists from 90 countries since 1984. The majority of these reporters, editors, and broadcasters continue to shape the global narrative, providing vital coverage of critical regions and fostering informed communities worldwide.

Through this program, 15 Fellows taught persecuted journalists about the U.S. legal system—equipping them with the knowledge and tools to continue reporting in exile and uphold press freedom worldwide.
